FAQs

All our cakes and cookies are provided with allergen information.

We are happy to cater for our customers with specific dietary requirements.  All our cakes and cookies can be made without using ingredients containing gluten, dairy, eggs or nuts.

If having a tiered cake you can have either the whole cake made to cater for special dietary requirements or just one tier.  Alternatively we are happy to make a box of ‘special-recipe’ cupcakes to minimise the risk of cross contamination at the venue.

Please note that whilst we can provide cakes and cookies that are not made with ingredients containing gluten, dairy, eggs or nuts and we make every effort to ensure there is no cross contamination, our kitchen and equipment will at some point have been used for these allergens and some ingredients may state that they have been produced in a factory which contains these allergens.

Please discuss any allergies or special dietary requirements with us before placing an order.

We are a small business, baking everything to order so to give your cake the attention it deserves we only take a limited number of commissions at any time, particularly for wedding cakes.  As a result we get booked up very quickly at certain times of year.

We therefore suggest at least 3 weeks notice for celebration cakes and 6 months for wedding cakes, particularly if you are having rich fruit cake which needs need time to mature, sugar flower sprays or hand modelled figures.

If you need your cake quicker than this please let us know and we will do our best to accommodate you.

Sponge cakes are generally served in 1” x 2” portions whereas traditional rich fruit cakes are generally served in 1” portions. Our celebration cakes are 3″ tall as standard whereas our wedding cake tiers are 4″ high.  Our cakes can of course can be made taller if you prefer.

Based on standard height cakes the following table shows the approximate number of portions from round cakes – square cakes will yield more portions.

     sponge     Rich fruit
        6”         12        24
        8”         23        46
      10”         35        70

A standard 6″ + 8″ + 10″ round wedding cake will give you around 70 portions or 110 if the bottom tier is a traditional fruit cake. A square cake would give around 100 portions or 150 if the bottom tier is fruit.

Additional portions can be provided by adding a fourth tier however a more cost effective way is to have an undecorated ‘cutting cake’.  These cakes could even be in different flavours if you want to give your guests a choice. A 10” square gives around 50 additional portions whilst a traditional rich fruit cake gives around 64 portions.

Celebration cakes, cupcakes and cookies etc. can be collected from our premises in the south of Edinburgh, just of the Edinburgh City by-pass.  We have easy access and free parking.
